Ana-n-Rick
We’re principally a husband and wife team and we partner with some very talented and deeply experienced folks. We’re fortunate that we work well together. Would that be considered a business partner with benefits or a spouse with benefits? 🙂
We’re fortunate that we both really enjoy what we do. As we’re together all the time we’re always talking about client and industry things. Some couples enjoy themselves playing tennis together. We enjoy learning new things, attending industry conferences, hanging out with others who also work in this space and working on client projects together. Kinda’ weird huh?
Over the years working in the “new economy” we’ve had the opportunity to work with and learn from some of the smartest people in the industry. We’ve also been fortunate enough to partner with some on client work.
Back in the day…
Before getting into Internet Marketing back in the mid 90’s we were direct marketers working in the catalog industry. If you know anything about that industry you’ll know it is fundamentally a communications and analytics driven marketing discipline.
There’s a reason why “back in the day” it was the catalogers, who as an industry were the early adopters entering into Ecommerce and Internet Marketing. By and large it was the catalogers who were paving the way for the slower moving and often reluctant bricks-n-mortar brands who would follow. As a group Catalogers got it. They came in the door with an understanding on how to communicate and ultimately sell remotely. Armed with only their words, pictures, an offer, customer service, their ability to build relationships and convert… all remotely they already knew how to make this work. As important, as part of their DNA they knew how to determine and value usable KPI’s, audience segmentation, multi-variant testing and more. Finally, they were willing to let the data guide their decision making, not subjective “ooh shiny”.By and large it was the catalogers who were paving the way…
Resonate Web Marketing?
While granted, our Resonate brand is relatively new since 2008, know that we’ve been working in this space for a long time. We’ve always said that time spend in the “new economy” is measured like “dog years”. The list of clients we’ve helped while in the employ of other industry leading internet marketing agencies over the last twenty years would read like a who’s who of the early adopters, leading internet marketing brands and brave new pure-play start ups. Mostly ecommerce plays but also “Lead-gen” marketers both B2C and B2B. The perspective gained by working such a wide array along the the X axis of internet marketer types has provided an insight into what works and what does not.…time spend in the “new economy”? It’s measured like “dog years”
Further, having also worked on the client-side for the category leading, worlds largest volume retailer in the auto parts and accessories niche we have worked with the fullest array of integrated, internet marketing channels along the Y axis from SEO to SEM, Email, Usability, Merchandising, Content, Social, Affiliate, Display etc. etc. This perspective drives the appreciation for “Integrated Marketing” and using the right tool for the right job. The internet marketer, as much as possible needs to be leveraging the unique contributions of a range of these disciplines. The analogy we’ve used in the past is you’d never consider turning off your household gas so you could spend more on water simply because your water bill is cheaper. Over the years we’ve seen too many marketers do that exact thing.Turn off your gas and buy more water?
I don’t think so.

Love love love a good story
We’re marketers but we’re also story tellers and fans of the spoken word art form. Many many years ago we were introduced to and grew to love the artful, and human expression of story telling. Garrison Keillor, Bill Cosby, Ira Glass, Scott Simon, Azrienoch and many more of our generation, Will Rogers and so many others who’ve gone before. Among our favorite things to do is attend storytelling festivals like the Illinois Storytelling Festival and Open Mic Story Telling venues like Chicago’s 2nd Story and New York’s The Moth. This appreciation finds application all over in what we advocate for our clients. The science of storytelling: Why telling a story is the most powerful way to activate our brains.
In parting, our gift to you. Enjoy. 🙂
